Openness

Openness is the third album by the Vertigo Trombone Quartet. Founded as a collective, the trombone quartet brings together four of the most creative trombonists on the German and Swiss scene. Playing exclusively their own compositions, the ensemble dissolves stylistic boundaries between jazz, classical music and free improvisation. Technical brilliance, ensemble spirit and soloistic ingenuity in improvisation come into their own. Playing at the highest musical level, the Vertigo Quartet does away with the cliché that the trombone is ponderous and is more like a light-footed string quartet that incorporates all the special features of this versatile brass instrument. Contemporary melody formation, rhythmic precision and the depth of the blues or a Bruckner-like motet are fused into an organic listening experience. Vertigo is one of the most original trombone quartets in the world, where music and ingenuity take center stage.
